Japan’s National Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 3.1% year-on-year in July, easing slightly from 3.3% in June, according to data published Friday by the Statistics Bureau of Japan.
Breaking down the numbers, the National CPI excluding fresh food also grew 3.1% YoY, compared with 3.3% previously, coming in above market expectations of 3.0%.
Meanwhile, CPI excluding fresh food and energy rose 3.4% YoY, unchanged from June’s pace.

In the immediate aftermath of the release, the USD/JPY slipped 0.03% on the day, trading around 148.32.
